How to trim a video to the part you need

  1. Choose an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV video.

  2. Drag the two handles on the bar, or type the start and end times, to choose the section to keep.

  3. Select Trim, then download the trimmed video.

Why this video cutter doesn't re-encode

The tool does not decode or re-encode the video. It copies the compressed picture and sound data of the section you chose into a new file in the same format as the original. Resolution, frame rate and audio quality stay exactly the same, and even a video of several GB usually finishes in under a minute. Nothing is uploaded; everything happens on this device.

A video can only be split cleanly at keyframes, which come every second or two. So the copy begins at the keyframe just before your start time, and the file is marked to begin playback at the time you chose. Phones, browsers and most players follow that mark, but some editing apps may show an extra second or two at the start. If you need a frame-exact cut, re-encode the video with the video converter first and then trim it.

Supported files

MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV → Original format

  • One file, up to 10 GB
  • Output: up to your device's free storage

Processing depends on the file's container and codec. A supported extension alone does not guarantee processing.

Frequently asked questions

Does trimming lower the quality? Does the clip start exactly where I chose?

Nothing is re-encoded, so picture and sound match the original. Playback starts at the time you chose, but some editing apps may show an extra second or two at the beginning.

How large a video can I trim?

You can select a file of up to 10 GB. The trimmed result is written straight to your browser's storage instead of memory, so even a video several hours long works as long as your device has free space. If there isn't enough space, you're told before trimming starts.

Can I cut out several sections and join them?

No. Each trim keeps one section. If you need several scenes, trim each one separately.

What format and size is the trimmed video?

It's saved in the same format as the original (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV). Its size is roughly the original size multiplied by the share of the video you kept, and the estimate is shown before you trim.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Files are processed in your browser on this device and are not sent to BlurMe servers.
