How to take a screenshot from a video

  1. Choose a video.

  2. Enter the moment in seconds. 2 minutes 5.5 seconds is 125.5.

  3. Download the PNG of that frame.

What a PNG video screenshot captures

The PNG is saved at the video's own resolution, not at the size of the player on your screen. A 1920 × 1080 video gives a 1920 × 1080 image, and a phone clip with rotation information comes out upright. PNG compression is lossless, so the image holds exactly the pixels the decoder produced for that frame.

A screenshot cannot be sharper than the video itself. Motion blur and compression blocks that are present in the frame stay in the PNG, so a moment where the subject is still gives a cleaner result. To save many moments at a regular interval in one run, use Extract video frames instead.

Frequently asked questions

Which frame is saved for a chosen timestamp?
The frame on screen at that moment is saved as a PNG.
What should I do if my browser cannot process the video?
Capturing a frame requires your browser to decode the video codec, and some codecs, such as H.265, are not supported in every browser. Try an updated browser or a copy of the video saved as H.264.
Can I capture the very last frame?
Yes, as long as Time (seconds) is less than the video's length. For a 60 second clip, enter a value just under the end, such as 59.99, to get the final frame.
Can I save the screenshot as a JPG?
The tool always saves PNG so no detail is lost. If you need a smaller file or a JPG for an upload form, run the PNG through Convert PNG to JPG.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Files are processed in your browser on this device and are not sent to BlurMe servers.
