How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. Choose your PNG images.

  2. Pick a background color for transparent areas. White is the default.

  3. Set the quality. Raise it above 80 for small text.

  4. Download the JPGs.

When a PNG is better saved as JPG

PNG keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparency, which suits logos, screenshots and interface graphics. For photographs, that precision makes files heavy. JPG discards detail the eye is unlikely to miss, so a photo stored as JPG is usually far smaller. Almost any app, website or email client can open it.

The trade-off shows on hard edges. Text, line art and flat color can pick up faint noise around their outlines. JPG also has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels are filled with your Background color. If a graphic needs to stay crisp, keep it as PNG and run it through Compress PNG instead.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to a transparent PNG background?

They are filled with the background color you pick. JPG cannot store transparency, and the default background is white.

Why does my logo have a light outline on a dark page?

Soft edge pixels are blended with the background color during conversion, and the default is white. Convert again with Background color set to the color of the page or slide where the JPG will be placed.

Will a PNG screenshot get smaller as a JPG?

Photos usually shrink a lot. Screenshots with flat color and sharp text may shrink less and show noise around letters. Compare the JPG with the result of Compress PNG, which keeps every pixel.

Can I get the transparency back from the JPG later?

No. Once those areas are filled with the background color, the JPG stores only solid pixels and keeps no record of what was transparent. Keep the original PNG if you might need a transparent version again.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Files are processed in your browser on this device and are not sent to BlurMe servers.
