How to convert WebP to JPG

  1. Choose your still WebP images.

  2. If they have transparent areas, pick a background color to fill them.

  3. Set the quality and download the JPGs.

How WebP and JPG lose detail differently

WebP and JPG are both lossy, but they lose detail in different ways. JPG compresses the image in 8×8 pixel blocks, which can show as blockiness or ringing near edges at low quality. WebP tends to smooth fine texture instead. Converting decodes the WebP, smoothing included, and adds JPG compression on top at the Quality you set.

A JPG can be larger or smaller than its WebP source, so compare the actual sizes shown below before you replace files. Convert each image once and avoid turning the JPG back into WebP later, since every lossy round trip removes a little more detail.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert animated or transparent WebP to JPG?

Transparent WebP works, and its transparent areas are filled with your background color. Animated WebP is not supported.

Why do images I save from websites end up as WebP?

Many sites deliver WebP to browsers that support it, even when the page or link suggests a JPG. The file on your device really is WebP, so renaming it is not enough. Converting it produces a real JPG.

Does the JPG keep the same width and height?

Yes. Conversion does not resize the image. To change the pixel dimensions as well, open the downloaded JPG in Resize image.

Can I convert many WebP images at once?

Yes. Add up to 50 files with 300 MB of input in total, and the results together must stay under 150 MB. If two results share a name, -2, -3 and so on are added so nothing is overwritten.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Files are processed in your browser on this device and are not sent to BlurMe servers.
