What stays in the image after EXIF removal

Camera photos can contain GPS coordinates, capture dates, device details and a small embedded thumbnail. This tool exports only the decoded image into a new file, so those source metadata fields are not carried into the download. The sample below contains deliberately added demo metadata. The comparison shows which fields are absent from the processed file.

The displayed orientation, dimensions and transparency are kept. JPG and WebP are re-encoded at the selected quality, so the file may grow. PNG keeps the decoded pixels without loss, although the browser's color conversion can differ from the original profile.

Frequently asked questions

Which information does EXIF removal delete?
EXIF, XMP and IPTC metadata such as GPS location, capture date and camera details are removed, along with embedded thumbnails. Faces or signs visible in the photo stay.
Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?
JPG and WebP use lossy encoding again, with quality set to 95 by default. Even 100 is not a guarantee of identical pixels. PNG writes the decoded pixels losslessly. Dimensions are preserved, except that an orientation correction can swap width and height.
Will a portrait photo turn sideways?
The browser reads the orientation information before exporting and applies it to the pixels. So the exported image keeps its displayed orientation without copying the original EXIF orientation tag.
Does this hide everything that could identify me?
No. Faces, addresses, reflections and other details visible in the photo remain. The download also keeps the original filename stem. Rename the file if needed and use the blur or censor tools for visible information. Only supported static JPG, PNG and WebP files are processed here.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Files are processed in your browser on this device and are not sent to BlurMe servers.
